Triage-First, Flat-Per-Mailbox Shared Inbox

A shared inbox for small client-facing teams that quarantines automated outreach and wrong-company spam across team addresses with approval-gated AI triage, priced flat per…

In plain English

What category is this?
Teams buy to close deals and help customers — CRM, outreach, support inboxes. Here the focus is communication.
The idea, briefly

Build a shared inbox priced flat per connected mailbox with unlimited seats that makes automated-outreach triage first-class and approval-gated: every message to security@, press@, partnerships@ or info@ is classified as real customer, automated pitch or wrong-company spam and surfaced for one-click approve/reject before a human queue sees it, with two-way Gmail/Outlook/IMAP sync. Caveat: flat per-workspace pricing already exists and is cheaper (Jelly $29 flat, Crisp $45, Helpmonks $49 for 3 inboxes), Crisp already lists Conversation Triage, auto-tagging, an AI Agent and an AI inbox spam filter, and Helpmonks includes AI summaries with unlimited users, so the combination is not unique and the price is not the differentiator.

What buyers expect

People comparing tools like Front, Hiver, Help Scout expect the basics to work without surprise fees or missing pieces. The loud complaints are: Per-seat pricing punishes teams with a few heavy users and many occasional viewers; and per-seat prices escalate after a team standardizes on a tool.

Should you build this?

People already pay for this, but the flat-rate wedge is already occupied and cheaper, so the only honest angle is the triage feature. Evidence of Missive reports $8M ARR, 4,500+ customers and 30,000 users bootstrapped, Front's page claims 9,300+ companies, and Helpmonks claims 3,000+ customers over 15 years. Real complaints exist and are verbatim on the Jelly Show HN thread: per-seat pricing charges the same for a heavy user and a once-a-month viewer; Groove HQ went from $20 for 3 people to $45/seat for 5; an operator says 100% of security@ mail is spam and offers to pay above the top tier for approval-gated triage priced per inbox; and a commenter worries about deliverability after a verification email landed in spam. The problem is that 'cheap flat-price shared inbox' is not novel and not defensible: Jelly charges one flat $29/month for the whole team with no per-user fees, Crisp charges $45 per workspace and already lists Conversation Triage, auto-tagging, an AI Agent, an AI inbox spam filter and MCP server, and Helpmonks has sold 3 shared inboxes with unlimited users for $49/month for 15 years and sells automated AI triage as a separate add-on. Critically, the proposed $39/inbox is above all three of those existing flat prices, so this idea cannot win on price at all and must win solely on the approval-gated triage plus two-way-sync workflow. Two-way sync and deliverability are real engineering moats, but the incumbents already have them, and
