Teacher-Author Rights Desk

For teacher-authors: a flat monthly desk checking every resource's clipart and font licenses, building the credits page, and keeping proof if a takedown hits.

In plain English

What category is this?
Companies buy to handle money and rules — payments, accounting, tax, audits. Here the focus is creator economy.
The idea, briefly

Build a browser-based compliance desk for teacher-authors: register the clipart, font and template licenses you use once; before publishing, each resource is checked for required flattening/securing and required credits, an off-limits-elements scan (trademarked characters, Canva-Edu content, moveable images without the extended license) runs, the credits/terms-of-use page is generated from the registry, and a dated evidence file is stored per resource so a DMCA notice can be answered with a counter-notice instead of a refund clawback. Caveat: it deliberately does not compete on flattening, which is free, and every part of the compliance check is ordinary software an incumbent could add.

What buyers expect

People comparing tools like Bearwood Labs (Flat Pack / BearPDF), Flat Pack on the TPT marketplace, Adobe Acrobat Pro expect the basics to work without surprise fees or missing pieces. The loud complaints are: Vendor clipart and font terms impose obligations that flatten-only tools do not verify, so sellers still check licenses by hand; and vendor terms vary and impose concrete obligations a flatten-only tool cannot verify.

Vendor clipart and font terms impose obligations that flatten-only tools do not verify, so sellers still check licenses by hand.
Vendor terms vary and impose concrete obligations a flatten-only tool cannot verify.
A takedown has a direct, delayed financial sting: TPT removes the resource, may refund buyers from the past year and deduct it from current or future earnings,
Infringement is widespread and account-threatening, and many sellers violate it without knowing.
The best-known protection tool is platform-limited, leaving Mac, Google Slides and Canva sellers to a separate, license-blind product.
Sellers are openly confused about which design assets they may sell commercially.

Market heat

  • Teachers Pay Teachers reports that 7M+ educators use the marketplace and that it has paid $2B+ to sellers (company-reported, not audited; the builder's opened page now returns HTTP 403 to the critic, but the same figures render in an indexed snapshot of https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/become-a-seller).

  • Bearwood Labs' 'Flat Pack' flatten-and-secure add-in is priced at $69.00 and rated 4.98/5 across 1,319 reviews with a 2.1k-follower store on its opened TPT listing (the earlier '1,317 reviews / 2,089 followers' figures came from indexed snippets; the live page shows 1,319 ratings and 'See 1,317 more reviews', and 2.1k followers). The $69 price is also confirmed on the opened Bearwood products page.

  • SellerSpy, a TPT keyword/SEO tool, is indexed as publishing a Free plan, Pro at $14.99/mo and Premium at $24.99/mo, a recurring-willingness-to-pay signal; the homepage returns only a JavaScript shell on fetch, so this is search-snippet only, not opened.

Illustrative, not a promise: 500 teacher-authors on a $9/mo desk is about $4.5K MRR; the compliance-only wedge is unproven and no seller has yet paid for it.

Should you build this?

Who pays: teacher-authors who sell (or are starting to sell) on Teachers Pay Teachers and use clipart, fonts and templates from many vendors. The job is to publish safely: know which licenses they are bound by, include the required credits, secure and flatten files, and keep dated proof so a takedown reply does not turn into refunds clawed back from future earnings. The niche is real and funded — TPT says it has paid $2B+ to sellers and a small studio, Bearwood Labs, already sells $69 and $59 utility tools to these sellers — but the obvious job, flattening, is free, and the leading tool does it well. That leaves the unproven part: will sellers pay a monthly fee for license tracking and takedown proof alone, or just keep buying one-time utilities? Bearwood could also bolt a compliance layer onto tools it already owns. This is not a guaranteed win. Source caveats: the Flat Pack TPT listing was opened on critic re-check and confirms $69.00 and a 4.98/5 rating across 1,319 reviews (the builder's '1,317 reviews / 2,089 followers' came from indexed snippets and is close); SellerSpy pricing remains an unrendered JavaScript shell and should be treated as unverified; and sources 1 and 11 return HTTP 403 to the critic, though source 1's 7M+/$2B+ figures are corroborated by an indexed rendering of that page.
