Flat-Rate, Own-Your-Data Builder OS
Flat-priced construction management for 1-10 user residential builders and remodelers, with one-click export of every job.
Founder thesis
Small builders are getting priced out of Buildertrend and CoConstruct, and the cheaper challengers still sell the same enterprise feature super-set. I am betting a narrow tool can win on a published flat price, real data export, and QuickBooks job costing that handles partial payments. The window is the CoConstruct phase-out now pushing its users onto Buildertrend.
What others got wrong
Buildertrend stopped publishing prices and moved to custom quotes, which third-party reviewers flag as a barrier to comparison.
Incumbents gate features and pricing behind demo calls, the exact friction small builders complain about. A Reddit user wrote that pricing tended to require sitting through a million sales pitches.
Contractor Foreman calls itself the most affordable at $49/mo but still aims at the whole contractor market rather than the five workflows a small remodeler runs.
Buildertrend's QuickBooks Online sync mishandles partial payments, leaving items marked unpaid until fully paid, which one user said ruins their A/P and A/R.
What should work
Publish the price. JobTread lists $199/mo plus $20 per internal user on the page with every feature included and no demo gate.
Offer a migration path for CoConstruct customers forced onto Buildertrend, the move JobTread is already running.
Charge flat for up to 10 internal users and make one-click export a headline feature, since the loudest complaint is being told there is no way to move your data.
Build corrections-aware QuickBooks job costing around partial payments, the load-bearing gap behind the wedge.
What kills it
- Contractor Foreman already sells the low end at $49/mo with a 100-day money-back guarantee and 'Switched from BuilderTREND' testimonials, so the price wedge is partly taken.
- JobTread sells a flat all-features price with free implementation and is growing fast: 10,000 customers in February 2026 and 13,000+ by August 2026.
- Self-serve onboarding bets against JobTread's stated choice to assign every client a CSM and skip a free trial. If the CSM drives activation, the cost advantage disappears.
- The QuickBooks partial-payment bug is the load-bearing gap and was only read off a forum post. It has not been reproduced in a live trial.
What users want
5A published price they can compare before a sales call
A Reddit user wrote that pricing tended to require sitting through a million sales pitches.
The ability to export all their data
A Reddit user with about 2,700 closed files and 50 open ones said they were told there was no way to move over any of their data.
A price that fits a one-person or small shop
A remodeler on Reddit said the tool would fit the bill but they were not trying to spend $800 a month.
QuickBooks job costing that handles partial payments
A Reddit user said partial payments still show as unpaid until fully paid, which ruins their A/P and A/R.
Lead integrations that carry more than basic contact fields
A Reddit user said a HubSpot sync with only basic fields left them emailing lead info to the admin team to enter by hand.

What customers complain about
9| Gap | Src |
|---|---|
Price escalation is pushing the smallest builders out. One Reddit user said costs had skyrocketed and their firm was leaving Buildertrend, typically when a small team that uses a fraction of the features hits annual renewal. | |
A company with 15 houses in progress was quoted '15 - 17k for a year', hard to justify for a mid-small builder. | |
A one-user contractor at about $190,000 annual volume reports Buildertrend repricing north of $900 per month and calls $17,000/yr overhead outrageous. An explicitly abandoned segment. | |
Data export lock-in: a customer with about 2,700 closed files and 50 open ones was reportedly told there is no way to move over any of their data and was advised to hand-transfer it. | |
Opaque, quote-only pricing makes comparison painful. One Reddit user said it was hard to find the construction software options and harder to find the price. | |
Buildertrend's own pricing page now offers only custom quotes, which third-party reviewers flag as a barrier to comparison. | |
Buildertrend to QuickBooks Online sync mishandles partial payments. One user said partially paid items stay marked unpaid until fully paid, which ruins their A/P and A/R, a trigger that should be reproduced in a live trial before building. | |
Lead-source integrations are shallow. HubSpot sync carries only basic contact fields and no notes, so a high lead volume still gets emailed to the admin team to enter by hand. | |
Remodelers say the price alone blocks adoption. One wrote that Buildertrend Advance would fit the bill but they were not spending $800 a month and did not make enough for that. |

How competitors find customers
4| Tactic | Src |
|---|---|
| Publish a migration path and switching guide for CoConstruct users forced onto Buildertrend, the play JobTread is already running. | jobtread.com✓ |
| Launch one high-demand integration and publish its adoption as a headline metric. The compounding effect is a hypothesis, untested. | jobtread.com✓ |
| Put 'Switched from BuilderTREND' testimonials beside a $49 entry price and a 100-day guarantee, the way Contractor Foreman does. | contractorforeman.com✓ |
| Self-serve video onboarding plus a same-day import wizard, so a buyer can evaluate and switch without a demo call. This runs against JobTread's choice to assign every account a CSM and skip a free trial, and must be revisited if a CSM proves necessary for activation. | jobtread.com✓ |
Your angle & pricing wedge
| Piece | Claim | Src |
|---|---|---|
| Angle | A flat-fee, own-your-data residential builder OS for 1-10 user shops: a published price, one-click export of every job, QuickBooks job costing that handles corrections, and only the five workflows small remodelers run, which are estimates, selections, change orders, job costing, and draws with invoicing. | |
| Wedge | Charge a flat $79-99/mo for up to 10 internal users with unlimited export. That price point is not novel: Contractor Foreman already sells $49 for 1 user, $105 for 3 and $166 for 8 with a 100-day guarantee, and JobTread sells flat all-features pricing with free implementation. The defensible number is against the specific configurations studied here: JobTread at 10 internal users lists at about $199 + 9 x $20 = $379/mo, Buildertrend is user-reported at $800+/mo, and Contractor Foreman reaches 8 users at $166/mo. The mechanism is a narrower single-tenant product around five workflows instead of the enterprise super-set, with self-serve video onboarding and a same-day import wizard replacing the dedicated-CSM onboarding incumbents cite as a cost driver. JobTread says it does not offer a free trial because it assigns every client a Customer Success Manager and invests in implementation and training. The cost advantage is unproven, since that CSM model may itself drive activation and retention. |
How others got traction
4| Move | Why | Src |
|---|---|---|
| JobTread publishes one simple, all-features-included price | The price sits on the page at $199/mo plus $20 per internal user, which removes the demo-call friction small builders complain about and lands below Buildertrend's user-reported $800/mo. Company-attributed price, with the friction link being my read. | jobtread.com✓ |
| JobTread opened a migration path for CoConstruct customers displaced by the phase-out | It targets an audience already forced to move, which is cheaper than cold acquisition, though it is a competitor's playbook rather than an open field. | jobtread.com✓ |
| Contractor Foreman anchors the low end with a trial and a guarantee | A 30-day trial and 100-day money-back guarantee move the risk off a tiny builder, and conquest testimonials catch comparison shoppers. This incumbent already holds much of that low end. | contractorforeman.com✓ |
| JobTread turns a fast-adopted new integration into a public momentum metric | It reported more than 2,500 companies connected in under two months, which may drive partner co-marketing and word of mouth, though compounding without paid spend is unproven. | jobtread.com✓ |
Market heat
Buildertrend markets 'Trusted by 20,000+ builders'. That is a self-reported claim from a search listing, and the page returned HTTP 403, so it is unverified.
JobTread was named #155 on the 2026 Inc. 5000, a self-reported release that gives the rank and the 2022-2025 methodology but no growth percentage, and reports more than 13,000 businesses by August 2026.
More ▾JobTread passed 10,000 customers in February 2026, self-reported.
Buildertrend is retiring CoConstruct and requiring those users onto its platform, per a JobTread press release that cites CoConstruct's own migration materials. Vendor-sourced, not confirmed against Buildertrend directly.

Should you build this?
The category has proven, repeat-paying demand, and the leading incumbent is pricing out its smallest users, with a CoConstruct migration under way. The market is crowded and integration-heavy, and the two cheapest challengers already publish flat-ish pricing and generous guarantees, so flat fee plus export is a wedge only if QuickBooks-correct job costing and one-click portability are genuinely better. This is not a guaranteed win. Validate first: run 15-20 discovery calls or DMs with 1-10 user residential builders and remodelers on Buildertrend, CoConstruct or spreadsheets, recruited from r/Construction and the CoConstruct phase-out threads, and ask each to place a refundable $99 pre-order for a 30-day pilot. Build only if 5 or more pay and at least 3 name data export or QuickBooks partial-payment correctness as their reason.
