Flat-Price IBD Trigger Desk

A flat-price Crohn's and colitis tracker built to surface likely food triggers and hand your gastroenterologist one printable report.

In plain English

What category is this?
Clinics, coaches, and consumers buy for care, fitness, or wellbeing workflows. Here the focus is consumer health and wellness (B2C subscription).
The idea, briefly

Build one flat annual price covering both iPhone and Android that bundles the full trigger engine (correlation across delayed reactions), a plain-language weekly summary, a one-page printable/emailable GI report, and an on-device log you can always export and delete. Caveat, and it is a real one: delayed-reaction correlation is not novel - the opened Clairop site already advertises 'three delay windows out to three days' and sells 'One subscription, everything included', and mySymptoms already runs correlation analysis with variable reaction windows - so the only defensible differentiators are Android coverage and a single low flat annual price. This is a packaging wedge, not a capability gap.

What buyers expect

People comparing tools like mySymptoms (SkyGazer Labs), Cara Care (HiDoc Technologies), Tract (Rory Bokser) expect the basics to work without surprise fees or missing pieces. The loud complaints are: IBD patients say trackers produce data but no answer about their own triggers; and the paid IBD apps' own doctor-report feature can misstate the patient's logged symptoms.

IBD patients say trackers produce data but no answer about their own triggers.
The paid IBD apps' own doctor-report feature can misstate the patient's logged symptoms.
Users want food and bowel movements tracked in one place with correlation.
Dedicated IBD-specific trackers are largely iPhone-only, so Android users are left with generic cross-condition diaries or nothing condition-specific.
The most-reviewed free IBD app in the store is effectively abandoned.
A single uninstall can wipe a patient's health history.

  • An estimated 2.4-3.1 million US adults have inflammatory bowel disease, with about $8.5 billion in annual US health care costs in 2018 (CDC figures read from a search snippet; the page returned HTTP 403 on open, re-confirmed, so treat as indicative, not documented).

  • MySymptoms' own App Store listing states 'Join over 1 Million people who use mySymptoms' and its About page says it is 'a trusted companion for almost a million people worldwide' (company-reported, opened).

Should you build this?

The people who pay are adults living with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis - roughly 2.4 to 3.1 million in the US (CDC, snippet only, page 403s) - and the job is simple: find which foods push you into a flare and hand your gastroenterologist a page they can read. But the competition is brutal and honest: there are at least eight near-identical store apps, the most-reviewed one (Cara Care) has not been updated in about five years, and Fathom - built by a co-founder who had already sold a company - ran out of money and shut down within a year of launching (Fathom shutdown opened, citation 17; co-founder exit confirmed on the opened team page, citation 20). The claimed differentiators are weaker than the pitch implies: Clairop's opened site already advertises three delay windows out to three days, a one-page GI report and 'one subscription, everything included', and mySymptoms already runs correlation with variable reaction windows - so the only real openings I can defend are Android coverage (the newest dedicated apps are iPhone-only) and a single low flat annual price. One documented flaw is concrete: a FlareCare review shows a patient logging severe urgency for weeks while the app's own doctor report said 0%. The pitch is one flat $29 a year on both platforms, with the trigger analysis and GI report included and the log stored so it survives a broken phone; whether a flat $29 can be profitable is an untested hypothesis, not a proven one. Do not build yet: recruit 30 people from r/CrohnsDisease, r/IBD and flare-focused Facebook groups who paid for a tracker in the last year, show them a clickable demo of the trigger report, and ask for a $29 annual pre-order.
