What buyers expect

People comparing tools like Drive Scout, Software for Driving School, Total Drive expect the basics to work without surprise fees or missing pieces. The loud complaints are: Per-seat pricing and a 5-user minimum make a small school pay for seats it does not use; and owners call the price too high and the mobile app buggy. A G2 reviewer writes 'The price of the software is a bit expensive', says 'The iPhone application sometimes hangs in between with the latest release', and that the on-phone tabs are 'small and difficult to use by older people'. (G2; page returned 403 on fetch, snippet-only and unverified).

Generic appointment software cannot do driving-school matching.
A modern low-cost US entrant is still missing pieces: its own product page states 'SMS is not available as a live product feature', 'There is no native mobile app',
State reporting is still manual double entry. The US leader markets ways to 'Save Time on ATLAS data entry' (Massachusetts) and to 'help you with the CARS System' (Michigan),
Scheduling is the top support burden. Drive Scout's own founder writes that before software 'at least 50% of our incoming phone calls were related to scheduling issues.'.

Should you build this?

The buyer is the owner of a small driving school or a solo instructor, and the job is running the lesson calendar, collecting lesson payments and producing the state paperwork that gets a student their licence. The market already pays for this: Total Drive sold for £7.5m after reaching about £0.8m in revenue and roughly 6,000 users at £18 a month, and US tools like Drive Scout charge a $250-a-month floor before a $250 setup fee. The opening is the low end the seat-based tools skip: a two-instructor school pays for five seats it never uses and a newer US rival still has no text reminders, no mobile app and no live student payments. The risk is that the lasting lock-in is state completion paperwork, not the calendar, so a cheaper app that ignores the forms will lose to whichever tool already prints them, and there are free and near-free apps. This is not guaranteed to work.
