Flat-Price Sleep Coach

A one-time-payment sleep coach that turns the sleep your phone already tracks into one thing to fix tonight.

In plain English

What category is this?
Clinics, coaches, and consumers buy for care, fitness, or wellbeing workflows. Here the focus is consumer health and wellness.
The idea, briefly

Build one flat one-time purchase for a nightly sleep coach rather than another score or sound library: it reads the sleep Apple Health already collects, names one concrete change for tonight (bedtime, caffeine cut-off, wind-down), and checks whether that change moved the numbers, processed on the phone with no account and no data upload.

What buyers expect

People comparing tools like Sleep Cycle, Calm, AutoSleep expect the basics to work without surprise fees or missing pieces. The loud complaints are: An Apple Watch owner says the only reason they picked their sleep app was that it was the only one without a recurring charge; and a user abandoned a sleep app during its free trial over friction, not price.

Market heat

  • Calm states it has been downloaded by 180 million people worldwide and has 3M+ five-star reviews (company-stated on its App Store listing).

  • Sleep Cycle states it is the world's No.1 sleep app with more than 40 million downloads (company-stated on its App Store listing).

  • AutoSleep holds the #1 Health & Fitness chart slot with 62,000 ratings at 4.7 stars, plus Best of 2018-2023 badges, on a one-time price.

  • Subscription-app context (RevenueCat 2026 via App Imp, all-category because the report has no matching 'fitness tracking' category): median MRR +5.3% YoY, top decile +306%, pre-2020 apps still hold 69% of subscription revenue, and >100 days to the first $10k. This shows the slot is hard to win; it is not Health & Fitness-specific and is not proof of success.

  • An independent two-month comparison by Andrej Karpathy found AutoSleep's sleep scores correlated only 0.14 with WHOOP and called it 'basically a random number generator,' showing the phone-and-watch tracking slot is very much contestable on quality.

Should you build this?

Who pays: an adult who already owns an iPhone or Apple Watch and is tired of paying every year to be told how they slept. The job: turn the sleep data Apple Health already collects into one concrete thing to change tonight, then show whether it helped, for a single low one-time price instead of Sleep Cycle's $39.99-$57.99 yearly or Calm's $69.99 yearly. Demand for sleep apps is real at consumer scale, and the one-time-priced, behavior-change-coaching slot looks open; what is not proven is that people will pay upfront for coaching rather than expect sleep tracking free with their watch, and incumbents already bundle coaches and bedtime recommendations.
