Should you build this?

The honest risks are that flat-priced subscription software is already commoditized (Loop is free to 50 subscribers; Recharge's own Shopify listing sells a $25/mo tier for 25-50 subscribers) and that the real Cratejoy pain (the 15% referral) applies only to marketplace-referred orders, so a seller with their own traffic would save far less than the platform-specific ~$101/subscriber over a year, and the incumbent's marketplace demand is hard to replace. Small physical subscription-box sellers are getting squeezed: on a marketplace-referred order, Cratejoy takes a 15% referral fee on the whole order including shipping and tax, on every renewal, plus 1.25% + $0.10, 2.9% + $0.30 processing and up to 6% offsite ads on the initial order (its own fee doc), and sellers (snippet-only) say that stacks past 25% and that the marketplace traffic they pay for has dried up. The buyer of this product is a solo box owner doing roughly 50-2,000 subscribers who wants to keep the recurring margin, own the customer list, and use their own Stripe. The job is: host the storefront, run recurring billing and the customer portal, and import Cratejoy subscribers in one click, all for one flat fee and 0% of sales. Do not build yet.
