Flat-Account P&C Agency Management

Flat per-agency AMS for 2-10 person independent P&C agencies: unlimited seats, commercial-lines certificates, migration done for you, an open API.

Founder thesis

Small independent P&C agencies are overpaying for seats and capacity they do not use, and no cheap transparent AMS is built commercial-lines-first. Bill the agency instead of the seat, include the carrier downloads incumbents meter, and do the migration for them. The bet is that 2-10 person P&C shops will pay $199-$249 flat to escape quote-only contracts, if the product clears the carrier-connectivity gate.

What others got wrong

  • Applied and EZLynx hide the price. EZLynx says 'there's no single flat rate. That's by design... reach out to us', so a small agency cannot budget without a sales call.

  • They meter what should be included. NowCerts adds $45 per additional user and $35 for IVANS carrier downloads, and Applied Epic reportedly charges '$800 Setup fee plus $200+ monthly' to add a user and gates API access.

  • Their commercial-lines workflow is weaker than their marketing. A HawkSoft customer story says EZLynx commercial processes 'took three to four times longer' and 'the ACORD Forms were a complete disaster'.

  • Annual price rises with no new value. Users report Applied 'continues to get a 7% or so increase each year (since their purchase)', and AgencyBloc locks buyers into a 12-month contract with early-termination liability.

What should work

  • Bill the agency, not the seat. A flat $199-$249/mo for unlimited seats undercuts a 5-person Applied Epic setup (roughly $1,000/mo before API and add-ons) by 75-90% and slightly beats per-seat cloud rivals.

  • Include carrier downloads and comparative rating instead of metering them, since NowCerts charges $35 for IVANS downloads and $45 per extra user.

  • Do the migration for the agency. Policy history, commission ledgers and carrier download files are the real switching barrier, and users call switching 'a massive, time consuming pain'.

  • Ship commercial-lines-first certificates and ACORD forms, the slice the life and health players (unLocked, NextAgency, AgencyBloc) do not cover.

What kills it

  • Carrier connectivity is a hard gate. EZLynx claims 330+ carriers and NowCerts meters IVANS downloads at $35, so a new entrant cannot match real-time rating or download feeds without carrier and vendor agreements.
  • NowCerts already sits in the cheap transparent P&C slot at $349 for 5 users with ACORD forms, certificates and IVANS, so price and transparency alone are not a wedge.
  • The unserved slice, small P&C agencies needing commercial-lines certificates and done-for-you migration, may be narrow, and calling it thin is contradicted in part by NowCerts.
  • No source shows P&C agencies on Applied, EZLynx or HawkSoft actually leaving. The only direct signal is a Reddit user who still calls switching 'a massive, time consuming pain'.

What users want

4
  • A price they can budget without a sales call.

One agency says it pays '$2600/month with Ams360...we use probably 50% of its capacity' and still calls switching 'a massive, time consuming pain', so it stays.

  • Seats that do not cost extra.

A Reddit user reports Applied Epic charges 'Add a user? $800 Setup fee plus $200+ monthly', a cost the agency cannot plan around.

  • Commercial-lines certificates and ACORD forms that work.

A Reddit user says 'Certificates require a PH D to figure out', and a HawkSoft customer story describes EZLynx where 'the ACORD Forms were a complete disaster'.

  • Terms that do not lock them in.

Users report AgencyBloc requires a 12-month contract with early-termination liability, and that Applied 'continues to get a 7% or so increase each year'.

P&C AMS pricing is quote-only, so a small agency cannot budget without a sales call. EZLynx's pricing page refuses a number ('there's no single flat rate. That's by design... reach out to us'), unlike NextAgency and NowCerts which publish per-seat prices.
Agencies pay for capacity they do not use. One agency says it pays '$2600/month with Ams360...and we use probably 50% of its capacity' and still calls switching 'a massive, time consuming pain', so it stays.
Adding a seat or API access is a major, opaque cost. Applied Epic: 'Add a user? $800 Setup fee plus $200+ monthly. Want access to API? Fortune.'
Recurring annual increases above inflation. Applied 'continues to get a 7% or so increase each year (since their purchase)'. That quote could not be confirmed, so treat it as a hypothesis, not a fact.
Cloud AMS competitors are weak on commercial lines next to their marketing. A HawkSoft customer story (competitor page, interview from August 2017) describes moving to EZLynx and finding 'Commercial processes took three to four times longer', 'the ACORD Forms were a complete disaster', and ~25-minute hold times before returning to HawkSoft. A Reddit user says 'EVERYTHING takes at least twice the number of clicks to do... Certificates require a PH D to figure out.'
Small-agency monthly spend clusters around $500-$1,100 for a handful of users. Reddit quotes '$1k a month or so', '$1,100 a month', and 'Agencybloc, 3 users, I think it's $180 a month'. A vendor blog cites EZLynx around $500/mo for four users and AMS360 around $50,000/year for 18 users, but attributes those to forums. Self-reported and secondhand, not invoices.
Nothing shows P&C agencies on Applied, EZLynx or HawkSoft actively migrating to a new entrant. A Reddit user compares HawkSoft at '$600/mo' with their '$2600/month' AMS360 but still calls switching 'a massive, time consuming pain'. The intent is real in direction, unproven in action.

Sell through agency networks and clusters. EZLynx's pricing page shows SIAA, Smart Choice, Firefly, PGI and PIA Select and says members 'usually get a discount through your membership', bundling the AMS into a package small agencies already buy.ezlynx.com✓
Head-to-head comparison and competitor-pricing search pages, plus AI-readable pricing. NextAgency runs 'NextAgency v AgencyBloc', 'NextAgency v P&C AMS' and 'best health insurance AMS' pages, while unLocked CRM publishes a competitor cost teardown and exposes pricing.md and llms.txt for AI agents.unlockedcrm.ai✓
Pay down the switching cost, not the price. NextAgency's 'Switching Assistance Program' cuts its fees 50% for up to six months while the agency finishes paying an incumbent contract.nextagency.com✓

Your angle & pricing wedge

Angle and pricing wedge
PieceClaimSrc
AngleA flat per-agency price for unlimited seats with carrier downloads and comparative rating included, a commercial-lines-first certificate and ACORD workflow, vendor-run migration, and an open API/MCP. But flat transparent pricing already exists in P&C: NowCerts is a self-serve P&C AMS at $99-$349 for 1/2/5 users with ACORD forms, certificates and IVANS downloads, and unLocked already ships MCP access, so the flat price is not a unique wedge.
WedgeBill the agency, not the seat, and include the connectivity incumbents meter separately. A 5-person agency on Applied Epic runs about $1,000/mo before API and add-ons, an AMS360 user reports $2,600/mo while using 'probably 50% of its capacity', and per-seat rivals are around $345-$425/mo for five (NowCerts $349 for 5 plus $45 per extra user and $35 for IVANS, NextAgency and unLocked at $85/$69 per seat), so a flat $199-$249/mo for unlimited seats would undercut Applied/AMS360 by roughly 75-90% and slightly beat the per-seat cloud rivals with carrier downloads included. This is a hypothesis grounded in a known cost structure and an unserved segment, not a promise, and NowCerts already sits in this slot at $349 for 5 users with P&C credentials.

NowCerts sells a fully self-serve, transparent AMS: three monthly tiers, a free trial, no signup fee, no contract, no credit card, while every P&C incumbent keeps pricing behind a sales call. The plan numbers are on its pricing page and the no-fee, no-contract terms on its homepage. Publishing the price defeats the 'request a quote' funnel Applied and EZLynx use, but NowCerts publishes no customer count, MRR or win rate, so nothing isolates transparency as the cause of growth.nowcerts.com✓
NextAgency undercuts per-seat rivals publicly ($85/seat, 'competitors charge nearly 30% more'), offers month-to-month terms, and pays down switching friction with a 'Switching Assistance Program' giving 50% off core and commission fees for up to six months while the agency still pays its current vendor. Both claims are NextAgency's own. Absorbing the overlap period targets the complaint that switching is painful and contracts lock agencies in, but no conversion metric is published and the vendor targets life and health, not P&C.nextagency.com✓
unLocked CRM runs a competitor-pricing content and machine-readable discovery play: a 'How Much Does AgencyBloc Really Cost' post that reruns the arithmetic at $69-$149/mo flat, plus pricing.md, llms.txt and 'Are you an AI agent? See pricing' links.The.md, llms.txt and agent-facing links are real page assets. The intent is to capture 'competitor + pricing' searches and AI-agent referrals, but unLocked publishes no traffic or conversion figure and is a young entrant, not a proven incumbent.unlockedcrm.ai✓

Market heat

  • EZLynx self-reports on its pricing page: '100+ New Agencies Choose EZLynx Every Month', '13M+ Quotes Per Month', '25B+ In Total Premium', and 'powers more independent agencies than any other agency management software'.

    More ▾
  • Low-cost transparent AMS entrants already monetize the low end: NowCerts lists $99/$169/$349 per month, unLocked CRM $69/$149/$247 per user/month, and NextAgency $85 per seat/month, all with free trials and no long-term contract.

  • The Big 'I' Agents Council for Technology 2026 Tech Trends Report ranks managing too many disconnected systems among independent agents' top technology challenges, and Insurance Journal's 2026 outlook calls the result 'distribution drag'. The claim is quoted on a vendor page co-authored by the EZLynx SVP, and the report itself was not read.

Self-serve AMS pricing runs from roughly $69/user/mo (unLocked Core) to $109/user/mo (AgencyBloc Grow, secondhand), with enterprise tiers quote-only. The published pages are NowCerts ($99/$169/$349 per plan), unLocked and NextAgency. Bridge at ~$30/user/mo is excluded because it is a VoIP/communications product, not an AMS.

Should you build this?

The category pays and the pain is real, but the cheapest transparent tier is already taken inside P&C and carrier connectivity is a hard gate. A solo founder should build this only as a narrow commercial-lines play with vendor-run migration, not as a general cheap AMS, because NowCerts already gives 5 users a $349/mo P&C plan with ACORD forms, certificates and IVANS at $35, so price and transparency alone are not a wedge. The realistic Day-1 capability is nightly IVANS downloads, not real-time rating, and the whole bet turns on whether small P&C agencies will switch without it. Test first: recruit 15 independent P&C agencies with 2-10 staff on Applied Epic, AMS360, EZLynx or HawkSoft, get each one's actual last monthly AMS invoice and renewal date, and ask if they would switch given zero real-time carrier rating. Kill it if fewer than 4 of 15 pre-pay $199/mo flat, or if more than half name carrier rating or downloads, not price or commercial-lines usability, as their reason to stay.
