Auto-Count Vape Taper

Vape tracker that aims to count puffs automatically on your phone and watch, with the taper plan free and one low one-time price.

In plain English

What category is this?
Clinics, coaches, and consumers buy for care, fitness, or wellbeing workflows. Here the focus is consumer health and lifestyle.
The idea, briefly

Build an on-device automatic puff log driven by phone microphone/motion plus Apple Watch, Siri Shortcuts and lock-screen quick-add as fallbacks - sold with the taper plan free and a single one-time unlock, so quitting does not require tapping the phone after every hit. Caveat: automatic detection is not vacant - Puff Count:Quit Vaping Tracker already ships camera-based hands-free counting - so the only possibly novel piece is microphone/motion sensing, and its accuracy, battery cost, and user willingness to accept always-on sensing are unproven.

What buyers expect

People comparing tools like Puff Count (Rodger Studio / Quiet), Quit Vaping (Jonathan Kopp), QuitVape expect the basics to work without surprise fees or missing pieces. The loud complaints are: Logging every hit by hand is the category's most consistent UX failure; and the free trial and billing flow feels deceptive.

Should you build this?

People who vape and want to cut down or quit pay for this today: Puff Count reported about $40,000 a month and a million users, and Quit Vaping sells a $99.99-a-year plan to over a million users. The clearest repeated complaint is that you have to tap your phone after every puff to make the tracker work - users describe the chore, ask for Siri or widgets, and one successful quitter resorted to a separate Apple Watch tally app and typed the numbers in by hand for eight months. The other repeated complaint is billing: a promised 7-day trial that was really 3 days, being locked out of the app after the trial, and a paid-only quit plan; billing is a review topic on the top-rated competitor. The hard part is that automatic counting is not vacant - Puff Count:Quit Vaping Tracker already advertises camera-based hands-free puff detection - so the only possibly novel wedge is phone microphone/motion detection, which is unproven in practice, and the help is already free in places (Quit Tracker; LastPuff markets free even though its listing carries premium IAPs), so a flat one-time price is not the whole answer. Before building anything, put a testable microphone/motion auto-count detector in front of 25 people who vape and have paid for a quit app or used a watch tally app: have each count puffs manually for three days while the detector runs, then compare how often the detector was right and whether they would pre-pay $24.99 for a lifetime unlock. Kill it if fewer than 8 of 25 pre-pay, or if the detector disagrees with their manual count on more than about 1 in 10 puffs.
